As per reports, several thousand people gathered in protest at the Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon on Saturday (26 October) to demand justice for the death of immigrant Odair Moniz, killed in a police shooting earlier in the week. Protesters chanted “Justice for Odair” and sloganeered against the police and against racism as they demonstrated.

The right-wing Portuguese party, Chega held a concurrent protest in Lisbon in defence of the police, which was attended by approximately 300 people.

• Furthermore, Portuguese police have reportedly recorded more than 100 incidents of public disturbances in Lisbon since the shooting incident on 21 October. Police have arrested at least 20 people, while seven people sustained injuries in various incidents of unrest.
