As per reports, Typhoon Jongdari is expected to make landfall at Jeju Island on Tuesday (20 August), morning before weakening near the West Sea on Wednesday (21 August) morning. Accordingly, the following weather conditions are expected:
• Southern parts of South Korea, including Jeju Island, are expected to witness heavy rainfall ranging from 30-80 mm from early morning on Tuesday until Wednesday (20-21 August). Mountainous regions in Jeju Island, the Southern coast of South Gyeongsang Province and Mount Jiri can expect rainfall of up to 100 mm.
• In this period, cloudy weather and rainfall is expected in all parts of South Korea due to the effects of the typhoon, with the Greater Seoul area and Gangwon Province expecting 10-40 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile the North and South Chungcheong Provinces may have experience up to 50 mm of rainfall, while the North and South Jeolla Provinces may receive up to 60 mm.
• A heavy wind watch has also been issued in Southern parts of Korea, including Jeju Island, as wind speeds of around 70 kilometres per hour are expected in the region. At night, very strong winds above 90 kilometres per hour are expected in Jeju Island’s mountainous regions.
• However, the typhoon is not expected to bring any respite to the prevailing heat wave conditions, as it is expected to bring in more warm winds from the South. Accordingly, the tropical night phenomena will continue between Tuesday and Wednesday (20-21 August).
• An advisory for the same is likely to be released by the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA).
