As per reports, the Police Media Division (PMD) has issued a traffic advisory for the acceptance of the Presidential Election at the Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya on Thursday (15 August). The nominations will be accepted from 0900 hours to 1100 hours, and the traffic plan will remain in effect from 0800 hours to 1400 hours.
The advisory states the following:
• All vehicles entering Colombo from Polduwa and Nawala Road can reach Welikada junction as usual and proceed towards Ayurveda junction and enter Colombo.
• Between Welikada Junction and Ayurveda Junction, all vehicles entering Sri Jayawardenepura Road from all side roads entering Colombo will be directed to turn left and proceed towards Borella Ayurveda Junction.
• Vehicles leaving Colombo from Borella Kota Road and Castle Street can head towards Ayurveda Junction and proceed from Ayurveda Junction along Old Road to Welikada Junction. Further, all vehicles entering the old road from side roads should turn left and move towards Welikada Junction.
• On Thursday (15 August) from 0800 hours to 1400 hours, Sri Jayawardenepura road section from Ayurveda Junction to Welikada will be restricted.
• On Thursday (15 August) from 0800 hours to 1400 hours, the old road section from Welikada junction to Ayurveda junction will be restricted for vehicular traffic.
• On Thursday (15 August) from 0800 hours to 1400 hours, all vehicles traveling from Talawatugoda Junction towards Colombo can head to Pitakott Junction via Talawatugoda Junction, Kimbulawala Junction and proceed along Nawala Road towards Narahenpita or Nugegoda to proceed towards Colombo.
• Vehicles coming to Parana Road from Obeysekarapura Road should proceed to Welikada Junction via Madinnagoda.
• From Polduwa junction towards Borella and from Borella towards Polduwa junction, the entry of container cars and tippers loaded with stones and sand will be restricted.
• Drivers using alternate routes have been advised to not use the road from Welikada Junction Sri Jayawardenepura Road to Ayurveda Junction Old Road.
• Bus Route 176 will take the following route: from Nawal Road to Welikada Junction and towards Sri Jayawardenepura Road to Ayurveda Junction and then towards their destination.
• Bus Routes 170, 171, 175, 177 and 190 will head from Welikada Junction towards Ayurveda Junction along Sri Jayawardenepura Road.
• Political parties and independent groups will be informed about the respective parking spaces for members.
