According to reports, Bengaluru has reported a 50 percent surge in Cholera cases amid a water crisis, prompting doctors to share preventive measures. The sudden spike in Cholera cases is attributed to contaminated water sources, exacerbated by the city’s acute water scarcity. Previously, private healthcare facilities in the city reported one or two cases of cholera per month. However, in less than a fortnight during March, there has been an alarming increase to six to seven cases.
Health specialists suggest that individuals may contract cholera after consuming food from small-scale eateries, where compromised water quality could be used due to the water scarcity. Multiple factors contribute to this rise, including poor sanitation, contaminated water sources, overcrowded living conditions, and limited access to water and proper hygiene facilities.
