The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Visayas power grid under a Yellow Alert on Tuesday (07 July) from 1800 hours to 2000 hours (local time) after electricity demand continued to outpace available generating capacity.
• During the alert period, the grid recorded an available capacity of 2,676 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,450 MW, leaving an operating margin that was insufficient to meet the grid’s contingency reserve requirements.
• According to the NGCP, a total of 855.1 MW of generation capacity remains unavailable due to a combination of forced outages and derated operations across multiple power plants.
