As per reports, the Met Office has issued a yellow national severe weather warning for snow and ice for parts of the UK, warning of a cold start to the New Year on Thursday, (01 January), with wintry conditions expected to develop late Wednesday (31 December) night and persist into New Year’s Day.
Forecasts indicate sub-zero overnight temperatures, with snow showers, frost, and icy surfaces likely to affect travel and daily activities.
• The Met Office stated that snowfall is expected in several regions, particularly in northern England, Scotland, Wales, and parts of the Midlands, while ice formation is likely on untreated roads and pavements nationwide.
• Additionally, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued an amber cold health alert for the health sector covering the North East and North West of England until Friday (05 January) and all other regions in England will be under a yellow alert for this period.
