As per reports, the Dominican Republic Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintained a yellow alert for Greater Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal on Sunday (08 March) due to a trough system continuing to generate rainfall across multiple parts of the country.
• COE warnings of possible flash flooding in urban and rural areas, rising water levels in rivers, streams and creeks, and possible landslides.
• The same report stated that green alerts remained in place for Monseñor Nouel, Monte Plata, Samaná, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, San José de Ocoa, La Vega, Sánchez Ramírez, Espaillat and Puerto Plata.
• According to the official INDOMET weather bulletin valid until 1800 hours local time (2200 hours UTC) on Monday (09 March), a strengthened trough across several levels of the troposphere was expected to continue producing moderate to locally heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and wind gusts through into Monday (09 March), including over Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal. INDOMET further stated that conditions in the National District, Santo Domingo Norte, Santo Domingo Este and Santo Domingo Oeste were expected to remain cloudy with moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds until the early hours of the night.
• Temperatures in the affected area were forecast between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius minimum and 29 and 31 degrees Celsius maximum.
