As per reports from Acento, the Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias (COE) has issued a yellow alert for the provinces of San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, and the National District of Greater Santo Domingo on Sunday (08 March), driven by the sustained presence of a trough operating at multiple levels of the troposphere and interacting with warm, humid east and east-northeast winds traversing the national territory.
• During the early morning hours on Sunday (08 March), isolated rainfall is forecast across the Atlantic coast, the northeast, and parts of the southeast, with this initial rainfall characterised as relatively weaker and shorter in duration due to the moisture transport mechanism of the east-northeast wind.
• During the afternoon, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorm activity and gusty wind conditions across the yellow alert provinces.
• Indomet has issued strict maritime recommendations, with fragile, small, and medium-sized vessel operators advised to remain in port along the Atlantic coast from Cabo Engaño (La Altagracia) to Cabo Cabrón (Samaná) and along the Caribbean coast from Isla Beata to Barahona due to the presence of strong winds and above-normal wave heights.
• The affected areas under yellow alert are the province of San Cristóbal, including the urban centre of San Cristóbal city and the Nizao River corridor, Greater Santo Domingo encompassing Santo Domingo Norte, Santo Domingo Este, and Santo Domingo Oeste, the National District, including the capital Santo Domingo city.
