As per reports, the Chairman of Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha (Urban Council), Lasantha Wickramasekara, who was critically injured in a shooting incident that occurred in his office at the Pradeshiya Sabha in Weligama, on Wednesday (22 October) morning, has succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to a hospital.

• The unidentified shooters had entered the premises of the Pradeshiya Sabha claiming that they had a letter to be signed by the Chairman.
• The police stated that a pistol had been used for the shooting.
