Weather forecast for parts of Chile through Sunday (02 August)

As per reports, a new frontal system is expected to bring sustained rainfall across parts of Chile from Tuesday (28 July) through Sunday (02 August), with an atmospheric river of Category three intensity forecast to make landfall in the regions of Ñuble and Biobío on Thursday (30 July) and Friday (31 July).

• The current frontal system is expected to affect the regions of Valparaíso through Biobío throughout Tuesday (28 July). The O’Higgins and Maule regions are forecast to receive the highest rainfall accumulations on Tuesday, with up to 48 millimeters projected for Rancagua and approximately 40 millimeters for Curicó.
• Los Angeles is expected to receive approximately 25 millimeters with maximum temperatures of around 10 degrees Celsius.
• In the coastal zone, Valparaíso may accumulate approximately 21 millimeters, with San Antonio and Pichilemu receiving approximately 20 millimeters each.
• Isolated thunderstorms are possible along the coast. Santiago is expected to receive sustained rainfall of approximately 15 millimeters on Tuesday (28 July).
• On Tuesday (28 July), rainfall maxima are expected to shift toward central zone sectors, with the possibility of thunderstorms in the regions of Valparaíso, O’Higgins and Maule, particularly along the coast.
• Santiago may receive a further 10 millimeters from intermittent rainfall. Los Andes may receive 18 millimeters, Chillán 19 millimeters and Constitución 11 millimeters.
• A Category three atmospheric river is forecast to make landfall in south-central Chile, with the greatest impact concentrated in the regions of Ñuble and Biobío, from the early hours of Thursday (30 July) through Friday (31 July).
• Rainfall accumulations of up to 90 millimeters are projected in San Fabián de Alico (Ñuble).
• Accumulations of up to 60 millimeters are expected in Pucón, Neltume and Liquiñe in the regions of La Araucanía and Los Ríos on Thursday (30 July).
• Rainfall intensities of up to 10 millimeters per hour are projected in the Biobío region from midday on Thursday (30 July).
• Wind gusts are expected to reach 60 kilometers per hour in the provinces of Arauco and Malleco, and 80 kilometers per hour in the cordilleran communes of Ñuble, Biobío, La Araucanía and Los Ríos on Thursday afternoon (30 July).
