As per reports, the National Weather Service (NWS) New York, NY (OKX), has highlighted residual icy and slick surfaces across parts of the New York City metro area on Wednesday (11 February), after rainfall moved out while surface temperatures remained at or slightly below freezing.
• The NWS Special Weather Statement: issued at 0256 hours local time (0756 hours UTC) urged motorists to slow down and use caution during the morning commute.
• Additionally, NWS OKX maintained a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of the NYC area, including Bronx, Northern Queens, Northern Nassau, Northwest Suffolk, and Northeast Suffolk, valid until 0600 hours local time (1100 hours UTC) on Wednesday (11 February), citing light freezing rainfall, freezing drizzle and a light glaze of ice.
• For coastal and nearshore operations, Small Craft Advisories remain in effect for multiple marine zones including New York Harbor, Long Island Sound, Peconic and Gardiners Bays, and South Shore Bays, with hazardous winds and seas expected through Thursday (12 February) afternoon.
• The Small Craft Advisory is expected to be in effect until 1800 hours local time (2300 hours UTC) on Thursday (12 February).
