As per reports, a Fire Weather Watch is set to take effect across the Santa Clarita Valley from Thursday (15 October) morning through Friday (16 October) evening due to hot, dry and windy conditions associated with the first significant Santa Ana wind event of the season.
• The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts moderate to strong Santa Ana winds beginning Thursday (15 October) morning, with conditions expected to peak on Friday (16 October).
• Northeast winds are forecast at approximately 25-40 miles per hour, with stronger gusts possible across mountainous areas, creating conditions conducive to the rapid spread of any fires that develop.
• Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s to lower 90s Fahrenheit, while relative humidity is forecast to fall to around 10-20 percent, with single-digit humidity possible in some areas.
• The combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures will significantly increase wildfire risk across dry vegetation and other fire-prone areas.
• NWS officials indicated that the Fire Weather Watch could be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning if forecast conditions continue to meet critical fire-weather thresholds.
