As per reports, the Port Authority of Funchal have reportedly extended its warnings for rough seas, strong winds, and reduced visibility until 0600 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) on Wednesday (10 December).
• Wind conditions are expected to shift throughout the day, beginning with cool to very cool southwest winds that may reach strong intensity at times.
• From late morning onward, winds are expected to change to a north or northwest direction and range from moderate to cool, occasionally becoming very cool until the end of the day on Wednesday (10 December).
• Visibility is expected to remain moderate to poor during the morning, with intervals of very poor visibility, before improving gradually in the afternoon.
• On the north coast, northwest waves of four to 4.5 metres are forecast, decreasing to three to four metres later.
• On the south coast, west to southwest waves of two to three metres are expected, increasing to three to four metres in the western sector of Madeira before reducing to one and a half to two metres, and two to three metres respectively.
• The Port Authority has reportedly urged the maritime community and the public to take precautions, including reinforcing moorings, monitoring docked and anchored vessels, avoiding coastal walkways, port breakwaters, cliffs, and beaches, and refraining from recreational fishing near cliffs and rocky shorelines due to unpredictable waves.
