As per reports, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 265, which represents over 1,500 frontline workers of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), has announced a strike starting Monday (10 March) at 1201 hours (local time).

• The strike follows stalled contract negotiations over wages, benefits, and working conditions.
• The strike is expected to result in a complete halt to bus and light rail services in Silicon Valley, significantly impacting daily commuters and residents who rely on VTA transit. However, paratransit services will continue to operate as scheduled.
• VTA has expressed disappointment over the strike, stating that it has offered a nine percent wage increase over three years and remains open to negotiations. Meanwhile, the ATU asserts that workers’ concerns have been overlooked, leading to the strike action.
