As per reports, members of the Bandi Mukti Committee, Hawkers Sangram Committee and other 200 organizations staged a protest in Kolkata on Monday (22 January) against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central Government. The rally was held from Bowbazar Mor-Raja Subodh Mulllick Square and ended at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium, and witnessed the participation of thousands of protesting vendors.

The demonstrators claimed that the central government is not addressing issues including employment and inflation and demanded the implementation of the Street Vendors ( (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
