As per reports, the following arrangements have been made in Mumbai ahead of New Year’s celebrations between Sunday (31 December) and Monday (01 January 2024):
• The Western Railway and Central Railway will run special suburban train services in the early hours of Monday (01 January 2024). The Western Railways will operate eight special local train services on an hourly basis from 0115 hours till 0505 hours in both the North and South direction, while Central Railways will run four special services, including both main line harbour line between 0130 to 0250 hours.
• The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has announced the deployment of 25 extra buses on key routes, via popular destinations such as Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Juhu Chowpatty, and Gorai Beach.
• Over 70 senior police officials, including 22 deputy commissioners of police (DCPs), 45 assistant commissioners of police (ACPs), along with 2,051 police officers, and 11,500 constables will be deployed on duty across the city. Additionally, State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) platoons, Quick Response Team (QRT), RCP security services, and Homeguards have also been stationed on stand-by.
• The Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP) and City Police have announced that ‘naka bandis’ (barricades) will be established at all key locations to regulate traffic movement, and warned of heightened scrutiny against driving under the influence of substances.
