As per reports, the US Embassy in Bogotá issued a security advisory for US citizens in Colombia ahead of the presidential runoff election scheduled for Sunday (21 June).
• The Embassy warned of the potential for protests, demonstrations, and isolated incidents of violence during the election period despite nationwide security deployments.
• US citizens were advised to maintain a high level of vigilance, avoid protest locations, comply with instructions issued by local authorities, and be prepared to shelter in place if prolonged demonstrations occur.
• The advisory comes amid concerns regarding possible public gatherings and unrest associated with the election process.
• Separately, on Tuesday (16 June), the Embassy highlighted increasing security concerns in the Atlántico Department.
• The advisory discouraged travel to the municipalities of Malambo, Baranoa, Sabanalarga, Polonuevo, Santo Tomás, Palmar de Varela, Galapa, Puerto Colombia, and Sabana Grande.
