As per reports, the upper-caste community in Bhopal staged a protest on Saturday (26 September) against the new UGC provisions introduced in 2026, with protesters taking out a march from Mata Mandir to Raj Bhavan and submitting a memorandum to the Governor.
• The protesters demanded withdrawal of the new provisions, reservation based on economic criteria, and an investigation before action is taken under the SC/ST Act.
• The organisers have indicated that the Bhopal protest is the beginning of a wider movement, with preparations underway to expand the agitation to Delhi if their demands are not addressed.
