As per reports, following are the updates on wildfires in Canada as of Tuesday (01 July):
• Fire activity remains concentrated in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario where dry and windy conditions continue to fuel the outbreaks.
• There are 61 wildfires burning across Alberta in the Forest Protection Area as of Tuesday (01 July). 19 are classified as out of control, 10 are being held and 32 assessed to be under control. Evacuation orders remain in effect as wildfire activity continues in large parts of Alberta. The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council’s evacuation orders for Peerless Lake and Trout Lake remain in effect as of Tuesday (01 July). Highway 686 between Red Earth Creek and Trout Lake is closed. Also, the Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17’s evacuation order for Chipewyan Lake remains in effect as of Tuesday (01 July).
• 50 active fires have been reported in Manitoba and have forced the implementation of evacuation orders, with 22 being out of control as of Tuesday (01 July). Three fires are being held and eight are under control. All air quality warnings and statements have been lifted across Manitoba, as well as the state of emergency as of Tuesday (01 July). Fire EA061 remains out of control as of Tuesday (01 July). A closure and mandatory evacuation order continues for parts of Nopiming Provincial Park and the entire areas of Wallace Lake and South Atikaki provincial parks. Fire WE017, located near Sherridon and the city of Flin Flon, is out of control as of Tuesday (01 July).
• Out of the 70 active wildfires in British Columbia, 29 have been classified as out of control, 14 are considered being held, and 27 wildfires are assessed to be under control as of Tuesday (01 July). A fire of around 35 hectares that ignited on Monday (30 June) near the Village of Chase on Mount Scatchard has prompted an evacuation order for a local First Nations reserve.
• 65 fires are considered active across the province of Saskatchewan, 17 of which are not contained and 26 of which are ongoing assessment as of Tuesday (01 July). The Shoe Fire continues to be the largest fire in Saskatchewan at 554,484 hectares as of Tuesday (01 July). The provincial wildfire State of Emergency has not been renewed as of Tuesday (01 July).
• There are 33 active fires in Ontario as of Tuesday (01 July), out of which eight are out of control, six are under control, and 17 are being monitored. The Red Lake 12 wildfire in Ontario, 6.5 kilometers from the community of Sandy Lake First Nation, is not under control as of Tuesday (01 July), measuring at around 195,670 hectares. The Sioux Lookout 18 Fire is at 23,648 hectares as of Tuesday (01 July). New fires include RED054 at Red Lake burning at around 2.5 hectares.
• Alerts have been issued in parts of Canada and neighboring US states due to hazardous air quality.
