As per reports, following are the latest updates on the tensions in Parbhani as on Friday (13 December)

• The police have arrested 54 people in connection with the violence in Parbhani on Wednesday (11 December) during a bandh (shutdown) called to protest the vandalism of a replica of the Constitution near a statue of Dalit icon Dr BR Ambedkar. A bandh was observed in few towns of neighbouring districts of Jalna and Hingoli on Thursday (12 December) as well.
• Around 250 police personnel have been deployed in several parts of Parbhani city to maintain law and order. Although life returned to normalcy on Thursday (12 December) with the opening of shops, authorities suspended the state public transport bus services to the neighbouring Jalna and Hingoli districts in order to avoid any damage to buses and ensuring passenger safety. Prohibitory orders banning gatherings of more than five people also continued in the city as on Thursday (12 December).
• Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders criticised authorities for undertaking combing operations to arrest the people involved and have announced their support for the Ambedkarite activists.
• Leader of the opposition in the state legislative council, Ambadas Danve, reached Parbhani on Thursday afternoon (12 December) and met delegations of residents and traders. He also visited the office of the Parbhani district magistrate Raghunath Gawade, where he expressed concern over the police’s combing operations and stated that the detention of innocent people could lead to more unrest.
• State Congress President Nana Patole has demanded the suspension of the Parbhani superintendent of police and stringent punishment for those behind the vandalism of the Constitution replica.
