As per reports, Russian missile and drone strikes in Kyiv and the north-eastern city of Kharkiv resulted in a minimum of five fatalities and numerous injuries on Tuesday (02 January).

• Vitali Klitschko, the Mayor of Kyiv, reported damage to gas pipelines in the Pecherskyi district of the city. Additionally, disruptions in electricity and water supply in various districts of the capital were reported. In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that the city experienced impairment in heating and water supplies.
• One individual died, and seven sustained injuries in an incident involving a Ukrainian attack on the city and region of Belgorod on Tuesday (02 January), situated near the border between Russia and Ukraine.
• Russia launched a new wave of drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, with at least 28 people injured after six missiles hit the northeastern city of Kharkiv in response to the shelling of Belgorod on Monday (01 January). The death toll from a Ukrainian rocket attack on the Russian city of Belgorod just north of Ukraine rose to 24.
• Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, on Tuesday (02 January) advocated for an expedited delivery of air defense systems, combat drones, and long-range missiles.
• Turkey on Tuesday (02 January), declared its decision not to permit the passage of two British minehunter ships through its waters en route to the Black Sea for potential use by Ukraine. This decision is based on the consideration that such transit would contravene an international agreement governing wartime passage through the straits.
