As per reports, Typhoon Podul is expected to pass near Orchid Island and Green Island before dawn on Wednesday (13 August), with its outer bands possibly reaching Taiwan proper early morning. Landfall is forecast near Taitung around noon, with the typhoon leaving near Tainan in the evening.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a sea and land typhoon warning for Typhoon Podul on Wednesday (13 August). Around 600mm rainfall is forecast in the southern mountainous areas.

• Land warning area – Nantou County, Chiayi County and City, Pingtung County, Changhua County, Penghu County, Taichung City, Tainan City, Taitung County, Hualien County, Miaoli County, Kinmen County, Yunlin County, Kaohsiung City.
• Sea warning area – Bashi Channel, Northeast Taiwan Offshore, Southeast Taiwan offshore, North Taiwan Strait, South Taiwan Strait.
• Extremely heavy rainfall advisory – Yellow alert issued for Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City and Penghu County. Orange alert has been issued for Chiayi County, Tainan City and Yilan County. Red alert has been issued for Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Hualien County, Taitung County.
• Schools and government offices in most areas of southern and eastern Taiwan will be closed on Wednesday (13 August). The affected regions are Tainan, Kaohsiung and Chiayi cities, and Yunlin, Chiayi, Pingtung, Hualien and Taitung counties, as well as offshore Penghu County.
• All domestic flights were cancelled on Wednesday (13 August), while Taiwan’s two main international carriers China Airlines and EVA Air cancelled a number of international flights as well. Nearly 5,000 people have been evacuated.
