Update on Tropical Depression Ramil (Fengshen) near the Philippines – Saturday (18 October)

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued the following advisory for Tropical Depression Ramil (also known as Fengshen) near the Philippines on Friday (17 October):

• RAMIL is forecast to move generally west-northwestward or northwestward after a brief west-southwestward movement.
• The storm may make landfall or pass close to Northern Samar around midday or early afternoon Saturday (18 October).
• It is expected to cross or pass near Catanduanes later this afternoon or evening.
• Based on its observed motion, the likelihood of landfall over Albay or Sorsogon is increasing.
• RAMIL will likely continue moving west-northwestward, passing close to or over mainland Bicol Region and the Polillo Islands before another potential landfall over Aurora Province Sunday (19 October).
• A landfall over northern Quezon or southern Isabela remains possible within the forecast confidence cone.
• After crossing Aurora, RAMIL is expected to move across Northern Luzon, emerging over the coastal waters of Pangasinan or La Union by tomorrow evening.
• The system is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday (20 October).
• Heavy rainfall, severe winds, and storm surge may still affect regions outside the immediate landfall and forecast cone.
