Update on train collision reported at Knyazhaya Station, Murmansk Region on Wednesday (18 December)

As per reports, a collision between a passenger and a freight train occurred on the evening of Wednesday (18 December), at Knyazhaya station in the Murmansk region.

• The collision involved passenger train number 11, traveling from Murmansk to St. Petersburg with 326 passengers on board.
• The accident resulted in two fatalities and 31 injuries, including five children.
• Fourteen individuals were hospitalized, four of them in serious condition.
• The collision led to the derailment of three passenger cars and several freight cars, disrupting rail traffic in the region.
• The cause of the accident has been identified as a technical fault in the freight train.
• Recovery operations are underway as of 1132 hours local time on Thursday (19 December), with four recovery trains deployed from nearby stations.
