As per reports, authorities have warned that motorists should expect traffic delays and intermittent stop-and-go schemes in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu from Wednesday (06 May) until Friday (08 May) as Cebu hosts the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders’ Summit and related meetings.
Authorities have issued a traffic advisory covering daily peak hours from 0800-1000 hours (local time), when convoy movements and security preparations will likely disrupt traffic flow, particularly near the Mactan Newtown area where the Mactan Expo Center is located.
• The Lapu-Lapu City Information Office stated that the summit and related meetings at the Mactan Expo Center in Mactan Newtown, Barangay Mactan are likely to lead to temporary traffic delays, including stop-and-go situations, in Barangays Ibo, Buaya, Mactan, Punta Engaño, and Marigondon.
• Traffic enforcers will manage road movement and assist motorists, but authorities urged the public to leave earlier than usual and plan routes ahead to avoid congestion.
• Motorists traveling to and from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, as well as those bound for Mandaue City and Cebu City, should consider using interior roads and alternative routes to bypass affected areas. Officials have identified the Angasil Access Road, located behind Mactan Newtown Center, as a key alternative route, particularly for those heading to Olango Island.
• Authorities emphasised that road closures will not run for the whole day but will only be implemented during convoy movements.
• Authorities have also identified a main ceremonial route or thoroughfare linking the airport to high-security zones in Mactan. The thoroughfare is from the Airport to the Mactan area, passing via the Shangri-La and JPark Hotels.
