Update on TLP protests in Pakistan as of Monday (13 October)

As per reports, following are the latest updates on the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protests in Pakistan as of Monday (13 October):

• Talks between the TLP and the Pakistani Government failed to make a breakthrough, following which the TLP has announced the continuation of its march to Islamabad. Several thousand TLP protestors are camped in Muridke, where clashes between TLP workers and security forces continued on Monday (13 October).
• Reports indicate at least three TLP members and one police officer have been killed in fresh clashes in Muridke on Monday (13 October). Additionally, TLP leadership alleges that up to 11 protestors have been killed in overnight police crackdowns, with over 50 injured since the escalation on 11 October.
• Additional clashes have been reported in Sadhoke and near the TLP headquarters in Lahore City. Lahore’s Shahdara bridge also witnessed overnight clashes.
• Shipping containers and trenches have been deployed to block Lahore-Islamabad Motorway and connecting highways, halting traffic and leaving hundreds of trucks stranded.
• Islamabad and Rawalpindi have seen key arteries sealed, especially those leading into the Red Zone and United States Embassy area. The entry of heavy vehicles into Islamabad is prohibited until further notice.
• Several schools, colleges, and universities in Lahore and Islamabad have also declared a holiday on Monday (13 October) amid the unrest.
• Police reinforcements and Pakistan Army Rangers remain deployed in Muridke and Lahore, with forces on high alert across multiple districts.
• Some reports indicate that a large number of protestors at the Muridke blockade have dispersed after a joint operation by the police and Army Rangers on Monday (13 October) afternoon. However, these are yet to be confirmed.
