As per reports, farmers have parked their tractors across key road crossings on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands on Friday (02 February), as part of their protest against excessive red tape and competition from cheap imports.
• The road blockades have been mainly set up by Belgian farmers with support of some Dutch counterparts, which has disrupted important transport routes for freight from the major European ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam.
• Dutch and Belgian farmers have blocked the border crossing at Arendonk in Belgium with tractors and by burning a barricade. Farmers also blocked roads to prevent trucks entering or leaving the port of Zeebrugge.
• Blockades were also set up on the A4 between Bergen op Zoom and Antwerp, the A16 between Breda and Antwerp, and the A67 between Eindhoven and Antwerp.
• Farmers also blocked an Intermarché depot located in Villers-Le-Bouillet, in the province of Liège in Belgium on Friday (02 February). Aldi’s distribution centers in Heusden-Zolder, Turnhout, Vaux-sur-Sûre and Gembloux were also blocked by farmers.
• In Flanders, road blockades were reported near the Dutch border, on the A12 in Zandvliet, on the E19 in Meer and on the E34 in Postel.
