As per reports on Thursday (17 April), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is conducting search and rescue operations for the ten missing crew members of a Chinese sand carrier vessel that sank off the coast of Rizal, Occidental Mindoro. Nine crew members of MV Hong Hai 16 are still missing and a Filipino and Chinese sailor reportedly died after the ship capsized on Tuesday (16 April).
Authorities have rescued 14 crew members of the vessel, comprised of six Filipinos and eight Chinese nationals. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, including underwater assessments and preparation for diving operations and cutting work by the Coast Guard Special Operations Group Southern Tagalog.
