Update on security measures for Amarnath Yatra 2026 as of Sunday (28 June)

According to reports, security agencies across Jammu and Kashmir have heightened security measures in preparation for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra (Hindu Pilgrimage) from Friday (03 July).

Following are the latest updates available as of Sunday (28 June):

• Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with traffic authorities, has released guidelines on vehicle movement, tunnel restrictions, cut-off timings, and a new QR-based verification initiative called ‘PEHCHAAN’. Travellers heading towards the region have been advised to carefully plan their schedules and strictly follow instructions issued by authorities to ensure a smooth journey.
• As part of traffic management measures for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, restrictions have been imposed on general vehicular movement through the Navyug Tunnel. Vehicles travelling from Kashmir towards Jammu will not be permitted to cross before 1130 hours (local time), while those travelling from Jammu towards Kashmir will not be allowed to cross after 1500 hours (local time).
• Vehicles travelling towards Ganderbal and Baramulla will be required to cross before 1500 hours (local time).Traffic moving towards Anantnag will also have a 1500 hours (local time) deadline.
• Vehicles heading towards Manigam and North Kashmir will be allowed to till 1530 hours (local time).
• Vehicles bound for Srinagar must cross designated checkpoints before 1300 hours (local time), while traffic from Manigam to Baltal will be permitted until 1700 hours (local time). Vehicles travelling from Manigam towards Srinagar and North Kashmir must cross before 1200 hours (local time), failing which travellers may be required to halt at the nearest designated yatra camp.
• The Indian Army has also launched ‘Operation Shiva’, stepping up security with area domination exercises and mock drills across Jammu and Kashmir.
• The authorities in Pahalgam have also directed hotels to ensure that guest vehicles are parked within their premises and not on public roads. Hotels lacking sufficient parking capacity must arrange valet parking at designated facilities notified by the Municipal Committee Pahalgam and the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA).
• Authorities in Anantnag have significantly enhanced security arrangements for the pilgrimage by installing 34 Facial Recognition System (FRS) cameras at six strategic locations and deploying a network of 416 CCTV cameras along the route. Surveillance is also being conducted through drones, while regular mock drills are being carried out across all zones and sectors to strengthen emergency preparedness and ensure the safety of pilgrims.
