The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai on Tuesday (07 July), with heavy to very heavy rainfall, isolated extremely heavy rainfall, and strong winds reaching 70 to 80 kilometres per hour expected across the city. As per the latest IMD nowcast, an orange alert for heavy to moderate spells of rainfall with gusty winds reaching 60 to 70 kilometres per hour is active till 0400 hours (local time) on Tuesday (07 July).

The following are the latest situational updates regarding heavy rainfall in Mumbai:

• The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that all government, municipal, and private schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed on Tuesday (07 July) as a precautionary measure.
• The BMC has advised residents to avoid non-essential travel, remain indoors unless necessary, avoid waterlogged roads, and exercise caution in low-lying and coastal areas.
• Waterlogging has been reported in parts of Mumbai, including BPT Road Sewri-Wadala, where around two feet of water accumulation affected traffic movement. Traffic on the south channel was diverted to the north channel.
• Low-lying and flood-prone areas, including Sion, Hindmata, Dadar TT, King’s Circle, Kurla, Chembur, Andheri Subway, Milan Subway, Malad Subway, Bandra, Dharavi, Parel, and areas adjoining the Mithi River, remain susceptible to waterlogging during intense rainfall spells.
• Western Railway services remain affected due to waterlogging and earlier disruptions along the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor, particularly between Vasai Road, Virar, Saphale, and Palghar sections. Several long-distance services have been cancelled, diverted, short-terminated, short-originated, or rescheduled.
• Central Railway services towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) also remain vulnerable to disruption due to ongoing repair and restoration work following heavy rainfall and landslides in the Mumbai–Pune Ghat section.
• Mumbai Metro services are operating, with no major weather-related suspension officially reported. However, intermittent crowding or access delays near metro stations cannot be ruled out if road conditions worsen.
• Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport remain susceptible to delays and cancellations due to adverse weather. Airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet, have advised passengers to check their latest flight status before travelling to the airport.
• No widespread power outage has been officially reported across Mumbai. However, localized electricity interruptions remain possible in areas affected by flooding, fallen trees, strong winds, or water ingress into power infrastructure.
• No major telecommunications outage has been officially reported. Localized mobile or broadband service degradation cannot be ruled out in areas affected by power interruptions or waterlogging.
