As per reports, the Quail Springs Fire in Lincoln County, Nevada, has burned approximately 12,990 acres (5,257 hectares) and is seven percent contained as of Thursday (30 July).
• Fire officials stated that the reduction from the previously reported 13,500 acres (5,463 hectares) reflects improved aerial mapping rather than a contraction of the fire perimeter. Fire activity has moderated, with the fire exhibiting slow, backing behaviour through vegetation instead of rapid, wind-driven runs.
• The wildfire remains confined to the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) and adjacent Bureau of Land Management lands, which remain closed to the public. No evacuation orders have been issued, and no publicly accessible structures are currently threatened.
• Smoke from the fire is expected to affect the nearby community of Rachel, while changing wind conditions may intermittently reduce visibility along State Route 375.
• Fire officials have warned that conditions like hot temperatures, low relative humidity and poor overnight moisture recovery forecast through Sunday (02 August), are likely to support continued fire activity despite recent containment progress.
