As per reports, following are the latest updates regarding the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) anti-corruption rallies in Metro Manila as on Monday (17 November):
• The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has deployed over 1,800 personnel for the three-day anti-corruption rally of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC). The Philippine National Police stated that it has placed its forces on full alert ahead of three days of protests, deploying personnel across Metro Manila and tapping reinforcements from other regions to ensure public safety.
• On Monday (17 November), around 300,000 individuals gathered at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila for the day leg of the three-day anti-corruption rally. The first day of the rally on Sunday (16 November) had witnessed approximately 650,000 participants, according to the Manila Police Department (MPD).
• Many INC members established makeshift camps throughout the protest. Around 110,000 people also stayed overnight in shelters, in order to participate in the subsequent day’s rally.
• The city government warned motorists and commuters of heavy traffic around the People Power Monument and the following roads: Edsa, Katipunan Avenue, Ortigas Avenue, White Plains Avenue and Temple Drive.
• The Presidential Security Command (PSC) earlier announced the temporary closures of several access points to the Palace complex in connection with the rally. According to the advisory, the Arlegui and Solano Gates will be closed to vehicles and pedestrian traffic till Tuesday (18 November) evening. The PSC urged motorists and commuters to adjust travel plans accordingly during the security adjustments. Newly installed barricades were also placed around the Malacañang perimeter as part of the preparations.
• Several other roads in Manila have been shut for motorists as well. Declared off-limit to vehicles are portions of roads surrounding Rizal Park and Quirino Grandstand where the prayer rally will be held: Bonifacio Drive, Roxas Boulevard, Katigbak Drive, South Drive, Independence Road, Kalaw Avenue, P. Burgos Avenue, Maria Orosa Street, Finance Road, Roundtable and Mabini Street.
• According to an advisory from the Manila Public Information Office, motorists can use Taft Avenue, other parts of P. Burgos Avenue, M.H. del Pilar Street, Roxas Boulevard service road, United Nations Avenue, Anda Circle and roads inside Intramuros as alternate routes.
• Trucks can use Quirino Avenue, Capulong Street, Yuseco Street and Lacson Avenue. The city government said portions of Recto Avenue and Legarda Street near Mendiola Bridge as well as Magallanes Drive near Liwasang Bonifacio, Ayala Bridge and Ayala Avenue near a gate in Malacañang will also be closed to traffic.
