As per reports, the Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a phased ban on diesel autorickshaws across all Uttar Pradesh districts within the National Capital Region (NCR) to reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality as of Saturday (22 November).
• Diesel autorickshaws are reportedly expected to be fully prohibited in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Noida, and Ghaziabad, with immediate effect. Baghpat district is scheduled to implement a complete ban after 31 December 2025.
• The Meerut Regional Transport Authority has reportedly stopped issuing and renewing permits for diesel autorickshaws as part of the transition process.
• A project monitoring unit has been established under the Environment Department to coordinate implementation, involving multiple departments including Urban Development, Public Works, and Housing.
• Authorities in Noida and Greater Noida have also reportedly deployed anti-smog guns, sprinklers, and mechanical sweepers to reduce road dust.
