Update on parliamentary elections in Nepal – Friday (06 March)

As per reports, Election Commission has stated that vote counting started late on Thursday (05 March) night in Nepal. Latest updates as of Friday (06 March) are as follows:

• Turnout in the vote to elect 275 members of the House of Representatives was estimated at about 60 percent, as stated by the acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari in a press conference.
• Additionally, apart from a few isolated incidents of obstruction, the preliminary reports from the national and international observers deployed to monitor the election indicate that the election was conducted peacefully.
• Rastriya Swatantra Party is currently leading in 23 seats, while Nepali Congress and Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN (UML)) are leading in three each as per the preliminary election results.
• Counting is expected to be completed by Friday (06 March) night.
