Update on Manipur unrest – Thursday (17 April)

As per reports, the following are the latest situational updates on the Manipur unrest, as of Thursday (17 April):

• A low-intensity explosion was reported in Manipur’s Churachandpur on Wednesday (16 April). The explosion occurred at Elim Veng near Jamsuan-Sahei Road junction. No injuries have been reported. The police launched a search to find the suspects.
• The Meitei Heritage Welfare Foundation (MHWF) has sought Union home minister Amit Shah’s immediate intervention over the denial of access to the sacred Thangjing Hill in Manipur’s Kuki-Zo dominated Churachandpur. The MHWF stated that the pilgrims faced intimidation, including death threats and raised concern regarding the presence of armed militants at the hilltop.
