Update on Manipur unrest – Thursday (12 December)

As per reports, the latest situational updates in Manipur as of Thursday (12 December) are as follows:

• A group of ten Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Manipur held a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in Guwahati on Wednesday (11 December). The protest was followed by the submission of a memorandum to Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, urging the central government to take immediate action on several critical issues affecting their people.
• Unidentified miscreants on Wednesday (11 December) planted an explosive at the entrance of ICICI Bank’s Singjamei branch in Imphal West district of Manipur. The explosive, a hand grenade, was recovered by the bank’s security personnel, following which a team from the Singjamei police station along with the bomb detection and disposal squad reported at the bank.
• The movement of vehicles and pedestrians in front of the bank near National Highway 102 was restricted for arpund 30 minutes. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for planting the explosive so far. Police have stated that a case has been registered and investigation is underway to arrest the accused.
