As per reports, the following are the updates on unrest in Manipur as of Saturday (29 November):
• Hundreds of displaced individuals, seeking to return to their homes, reportedly clashed with security forces in Imphal East district on Saturday (29 November), as protestors were stopped by security forces at Yaingangpokpi.
• The IDPs from Guwaltabi and surrounding villages, currently staying in Sawombung relief camps, along with residents of Yaingangpokpi in Imphal East, staged a protest at Yaingangpokpi, including attempts to return to their original homes.
• In response, security forces, including Imphal East District Police, Commandos, Border Security Force (BSF), and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), deployed in large numbers, formed human barricades along the highway to prevent the procession.
• During the confrontation, security personnel resorted to tear gas and smoke bombs to disperse the crowd, as the situation reportedly escalated when an explosive device, reportedly mishandled, detonated within the security area, injuring a video journalist and a security personnel.
• Meanwhile, in the morning hours on Friday (28 November), four Assam Rifles personnel were reportedly injured during an ambush carried out by a group of unidentified armed gunmen in Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar. The place of occurrence is about 45 km from the district headquarters and about 76 km from Imphal.
• The injured were reportedly airlifted to the army hospital in Leimakhong, and their condition is stated to be stable. No group has claimed responsibility for the ambush.
