Update on Manipur unrest – Friday (08 November)

As per reports, the latest situational updates in Manipur as of Friday (08 November) are as follows:

• Students and staff from 21 educational institutions in Ukhrul Headquarters, along with the staff of the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Ukhrul, held a sit-in protest on Thursday (07 November) at the ZEO premises. The protest condemned the planting of a bomb at the ZEO office on 06 November by unknown miscreants.
• The Manipur Meitei-Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) and affiliated groups have also condemned the recent rise in hate speech posts and comments targeting the Meitei-Pangal community on social media. Over the past ten days, these organizations observed a surge in divisive online content and urged the public to refrain from spreading harmful messages.
• Additionally, two persons sustained bullet injuries in separate incidents on Wednesday night (06 November) in Manipur. The first incident occurred at around along the Ningthoukhong to ITI road near Bishnupur police station while in the other incident, an 18-year-old hostel resident was injured by a stray bullet at her hostel in Lamphel, Imphal. Further investigations into the incidents are likely.
