According to reports, following are the latest updates on the ongoing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shortage in parts of India, as of Tuesday (12 May):

• Uttarakhand: Pushkar Singh Dhami urged citizens to support the nation’s economy and the vision of “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” by adopting measures such as prioritising indigenous products, reducing unnecessary fuel consumption, conserving energy, limiting non-essential foreign travel, and promoting sustainable farming practices. He stated that collective public participation would strengthen India’s self-reliance efforts and help transform the initiative into a mass movement.
• Jharkhand: Shortage of cooking gas has increased in Dhanbad. Gas cylinders are being sold in the black market at INR 3000-3200. Lack of timely delivery of cylinders by gas agencies have caused consumers to buy at higher prices. Moreover, many locals faced shortage even after booking the cylinders in advance. Further, locals have demanded the administration to ensure regular supply of gas and take strict action against people selling in the black markets.
• Rajasthan: The Rajasthan government has implemented new LPG subsidy rules under which consumers with annual taxable income above INR 10 lakh will no longer be eligible for LPG subsidy benefits. Authorities have also initiated verification of LPG connections linked to deceased individuals, duplicate accounts, and ineligible beneficiaries to curb misuse of subsidized cylinders. Consumers are being asked to complete verification and update their records within the stipulated period, failing which LPG subsidies may be discontinued and connections could be cancelled. The new measures are aimed at ensuring subsidy benefits reach eligible low-income households and improving transparency in the LPG distribution system.
