As per reports, the following updates are available on the Kolkata rape-murder case as of Tuesday (15 October):
• Doctors in Kolkata held a ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ march on Monday (14 October) over RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case.
• The doctors submitted a memorandum to Governor CV Anand Bose and five doctors had a meeting with him.
• The Joint Platform of Doctors has announced a ‘Carnival of Protest (Droher Carnival)’ on Rani Rashmoni Avenue on Tuesday (15 October) to show solidarity with the protesting junior doctors, many of whom are on a hunger strike in Esplanade.
• As in previous years, the state government is organizing the Durga Puja carnival on Red Road.
• Both events are scheduled to begin at 1600 hours, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee serving as the chief guest at the show on Red Road.
• The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) temporarily paused its nationwide shutdown of elective services on Monday (14 October) after the West Bengal government convened an urgent meeting to address the demands of protesting doctors. FAIMA had earlier called for the shutdown of non-urgent elective services in solidarity with the ongoing doctors’ protests in West Bengal.
