According to reports, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a moderately explosive eruption at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano at 0733 hours (local time) on Thursday (09 July). The eruption lasted three minutes and generated a dark grey ash plume that rose two to three kilometres above the crater before drifting eastward.

Poorly visible pyroclastic density currents also descended the southeastern slopes, possibly within one kilometre of the summit crater. PHIVOLCS maintained Alert Level 02 over Kanlaon Volcano and reiterated that entry into the four-kilometre Permanent Danger Zone remains strictly prohibited.

• Ashfall was reported in Canlaon City and San Carlos City, while volcanic ash also reached parts of Cebu Province, including Toledo City, Aloguinsan and Pinamungajan. Cebu authorities placed disaster and health offices on heightened monitoring and advised residents in ashfall-affected areas to stay indoors and wear face masks if outdoor movement is necessary.
• Volcanic ash also affected Mactan-Cebu International Airport, where it was detected in the airport vicinity, including on the runway. Several domestic flights were cancelled on Thursday (09 July), while runway clearing and precautionary measures continued. As of 1500 hours (local time), classes had been suspended in at least 20 Cebu localities, including Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Toledo, Carcar, Naga, Consolacion, Liloan, Balamban, Aloguinsan, Asturias, Tuburan, Pinamungajan, Barili, Dumanjug, San Fernando, Argao, Sibonga and Dalaguete.
• Flight disruptions are expected to continue on Friday (10 July), with Cebu Pacific and Cebgo cancelling multiple Cebu routes, including Cebu-Tacloban-Cebu, Cebu-Dipolog-Cebu, Cebu-Pagadian-Cebu, and Cebu-Butuan-Cebu. Cebu Pacific stated that aircraft engine inspections are being conducted for aircraft that may have been exposed to volcanic ash.
