As per reports, more than hundred Indigo flights have been cancelled and delayed across various airports in India, as of Thursday (04 December). Further details are as follows:
• Around 73 Indigo flights have been cancelled in Bengaluru on Thursday (04 December), as stated by a Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru spokesperson. On Thursday (04 December) morning, around 30 flights were cancelled at the Delhi airport, while Kolkata reported four.
• In Kolkata, 24 IndiGo flights, 10 arrivals and 14 departures, were delayed due to operational reasons. Of these, two were international, heading to Singapore and Siem Reap, Cambodia.
• Aviation watchdog Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a probe into IndiGo’s ongoing disruption after the airline cancelled over 100 flights and delayed many more on Wednesday (03 December). DGCA has summoned IndiGo to explain the reasons behind the situation and outline how it plans to bring cancellations and delays under control.
• Additionally, the Pilots’ body Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has alleged that IndiGo, despite getting a two-year preparatory window before the full implementation of new flight duty and rest period norms for cockpit crew, “inexplicably” adopted a “hiring freeze.”
• FIP has stated that it has urged the safety regulator, DGCA, not to approve airlines’ seasonal flight schedules unless they have adequate staff to operate their services “safely and reliably” under the New Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms.
