As per reports, the following are the latest update on inclement weather conditions reported in parts of West Bengal as of Saturday (30 May):

• On Friday (29 May) afternoon, a severe Nor’wester storm accompanied by heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds swept across Kolkata and several districts of South Bengal, causing widespread disruption and infrastructure damage.
• According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), wind speeds reached approximately 88 km/h in Kolkata, and 74 km/h in Dum Dum was reported. Meanwhile, the storm resulted in at least eight fatalities and multiple injuries, with deaths attributed to electrocution, lightning strikes, and structural collapses.
• In addition, waterlogging, reduced visibility, and uprooting of at least 30 trees disrupted transportation and damaged property across Kolkata, Salt Lake, and surrounding districts.
• Air, rail, and metro services were temporarily affected, including flight suspensions between 1421 and 1520 hours (local time) at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport due to runway waterlogging, interruptions to Metro services on the Blue Line, and temporary suspension of train services between Sealdah and Barasat following damage to overhead electrical infrastructure.
• The most affected areas include Kolkata, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, West Medinipur, and Purulia. In response, the state authorities have initiated rescue and relief operations, including compensation announced for the families of the deceased.
