As per reports, on Monday (06 October) at approximately 1900 hours local time (0200 hours UTC (Tuesday 07 October)) a medevac helicopter operated by Reach Air Medical Services reportedly crashed on the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 near Howe Avenue in Sacramento, California.
• The aircraft, reportedly identified as an Airbus H-130, had recently taken off from the UC Davis Medical Center rooftop. Onboard were three personnel: a pilot, a nurse, and a paramedic. No patients were aboard.
• Following the crash, the helicopter reportedly landed on at least one vehicle, trapping occupants inside.
• Emergency response teams, including Sacramento Fire Department, California Highway Patrol (CHP), and multiple ambulances, were deployed to the scene. Bystanders assisted in lifting the helicopter to rescue those trapped.
• The three crew members were reported in critical condition.
• The crash led to a full closure of eastbound Highway 50 and partial disruptions on the westbound side.
• Caltrans, CHP, and Sacramento Police Department implemented traffic diversions, including redirecting vehicles from northbound Highway 99 to the Capital City Freeway.
• The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to lead the investigation into the crash.
