Update on government formation in Tamil Nadu – Saturday (09 May)

As per reports, following are updates related to the formation of new government in Tamil Nadu as on Saturday (09 May):

• The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is expected to announce its support for C. Joseph Vijay and the formation of a government led by the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) on Saturday (09 May). The VCK has two seats.
• Security Branch officials in Tamil Nadu were informed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has cancelled his visit to Chennai on Saturday (09 May). He was scheduled to attend the much-anticipated swearing in of TVK leader Vijay as Chief Minister.
• As per Governor’s office sources, Vijay mustered only 116 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) on record during the meeting on Friday (08 May). Reports also claim that the oath for the Chief Minister has been cancelled.
• Security has been increased at the Lok Bhavan in Chennai as on Saturday (09 May) as well.
