Update on general strike in Italy and scheduled demonstrations in Monza on Friday (12 December)

As per reports, Monza is scheduled to experience a full-day general strike and large-scale demonstration organized by the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL) on Friday (12 December).

• The mobilization on Friday (12 December) includes a march that begins at 0900 hours local time (0800 hours UTC) in Piazza Castello, proceeds through the city center and concludes in Piazza Roma.
• The protest is directed at the national budget bill and encompasses demands related to wage and pension protection, limits on increases to retirement age, redirecting military spending toward public services, combating job insecurity and strengthening industrial, service sector and regional development policies.
• Additional demands include progressive tax reform, renewal of national work contracts, measures against undeclared labor, expansion of social protections and targeted support for Southern Italy.
• The strike includes participation from NET Srl workers and affects regional transport services.
• Train and operating personnel in Monza are reportedly permitted to strike from 1450 hours local time (1350 hours UTC) until the end of service.
• For the Trezzo Extra-Urban Service, personnel may strike between 0845 hours local time (0745 hours UTC) and 1500 hours local time (1400 hours UTC).
• Public administration, industrial sectors and local services may also experience operational reductions due to staff participation.
