Update on Gen-Z protests in Morocco as of Sunday (26 October)

As per reports, following are the latest updates on the youth-led movement, organised by the group ‘GEN Z 212’ as of Sunday (26 October)

• Several hundred youths gathered in cities, including Rabat, Casablanca and Tangier on Saturday (25 October), to demand freedom for detained Gen-Z protestors.
• The Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) has indicated that more than 2,000 people have been detained nationwide for participating in the Gen-Z protests. A total of 2,068 individuals have been arrested and prosecuted in connection with the demonstrations, of whom 1,088 remain in custody, 596 have been released, and 233 have already received judicial sentences. These figures remain preliminary as arrests continue in various regions, according to the AMDH.
• In Rabat, 192 arrests have been recorded, while Temara recorded 95 arrests, Casablanca recorded 80 arrests, and Berkane recorded 51 arrests.
