As per reports, the Gen-Z group led by Miraj Dhungana had earlier announced that a nationwide movement ‘United Gen-Z’ will commence on Monday (22 December). Following are latest updates:
• The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, stated on Monday (22 December) that it had denied permission to stage a protest, citing procedural requirements. Assistant Chief District Officer and information officer Muktiram Rijal stated that the group approached the administration at around 1000 hours (local time) seeking approval.
• Such a permission is issued only after consultations with security agencies. Rijal added that the organisers had been told not to proceed with the protest and warned that the administration would act according to the law if the order was defied.
• Police later removed some demonstrators from the Maitighar Mandala area, saying the protest was held without permission. Protesters chanted slogans, accusing the police of intervening during the action.
• Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the number of detainees or the legal grounds for the action.
