According to reports, following are the updates regarding incessant heavy rainfall recorded in Tripura, as of on Saturday (24 August);
• The rescue team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) evacuated 125 people, from multiple flood-affected parts of North Eastern state Tripura in a Friday (23 August) evening operation.
• Additionally, on Saturday (24 August), the Indian Air Force stated that its’ helicopters air-dropped over 4,000 food packets to locals stranded in disaster-affected areas.
• CM Manik Saha is scheduled to chair an all-party meeting on Saturday (24 August) to review the ongoing flood situation in Tripura. Earlier, he had took stock of flood situations and assured the citizens that the situation was under control.
• As per the latest data, 24 people have died, two persons have been injured and two others were reported missing in the floods in the state. The preliminary reports suggested extensive damages to physical infrastructure (like roads, power, buildings) and agriculture crops, houses, fishery ponds, livestock etc. As per the report, a total of 558 relief camps have been set up by the district administration, as of yet.
• Reportedly, the water level in all rivers, barring River Gomati at Sonamura in Sepahijala district, have come down below the danger level due to less rainfall in the last two days.
• Due to the current flood situation, the government has announced that all educational institutions, including Government, Government-aided, and private schools, colleges and State-run universities, will remain shut until further notice.
• The IMD has issued yellow alert for heavy rainfall across all districts of Tripura, on Saturday (24 August). Yellow alert has also been issued for most districts on Sunday (25 August), except South Tripura that has red alert for extremely heavy rainfall active and Dhalai district that has orange alert for very heavy rainfall active.
