According to reports, flood like situations prevailed at some places in Rajasthan due to extremely heavy rainfall as on Sunday (24 August);

• Eight districts namely Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, and Bundi are among the worst affected. Bundi’s Nainwa received the highest rainfall of 502 mm in the past 24 hours on Saturday (23 August).
• The severity of the situation has prompted the deployment of the Army, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), to carry out rescue and relief operations. The Air Force has been placed on standby, with one Mi-17 helicopter already airborne to assist in relief operations.
• In Sawai Madhopur, more than 30 villages are reportedly submerged and cut off from the main city. Over one lakh people have been affected, with flooding caused by both relentless rainfall and the overflow of the Surwal dam.
• Road and rail connectivity has been affected. The highway linking Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh is underwater, while in Kota, roads connecting the city to Jaipur and other regions have also been submerged.
• In Sawai Madhopur, Army teams are working alongside the NDRF and SDRF to rescue stranded villagers and move them to safety. Similar operations are underway in Bundi, where the administration has sought Army support in worst-hit areas such as Nainwa, Kapren, and Keshoraipatan.
• Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has reviewed the relief and rescue efforts and directed officials to conduct a special survey to assess damage to crops and property.
• Authorities confirmed two rain-related deaths and stated that hundreds of people had been shifted to safer locations as more showers are expected in the coming days.
• Further, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday (24 August) issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and squall in Bhilwara, Bundi, Kota and Baran.
